2022: The Opportunity I Saw
When I pivoted to Malaysia education in 2022, the decision was straightforward. Families want their children in an English-speaking environment, but the cost of UK or US programs felt out of reach. Malaysia offered the same quality, with half the price, a direct flight from China, and something else most programs didn't: parents could join.
The market was fragmented. Schools had no unified standards, and families had to make decisions based on incomplete information. I thought: someone should fix this.
The First Years: Hidden Costs of Doing It Right
Our first customer came from Xiaohongshu. He later told me it was because I "presented things objectively" — not overselling, just facts.
But here's what most people don't see: those early years were brutal financially. A single placement took 6+ hours: school comparisons, visa guidance, pre-departure logistics, on-ground handover. Everything was custom, fragmented, and left us barely breaking even.
Most operators would have streamlined by cutting corners or standardizing in shortcuts. I did the opposite.
The Inflection Point: When Schools Started Finding Us
What actually changed wasn't that we got more customers. It was that schools began approaching us for partnerships. Why? Because we didn't misrepresent facts to close a deal. When something went wrong — and once we sent a family to the wrong campus — we diagnosed it, fixed it, and built a process so it never happened again.
Over four years, I've built a rulebook this way. Not from theory. From every mistake we've made.
Two Things I Refuse to Compromise On
1. Transparency First
Before you commit, you know exactly what we're responsible for and what you are. No fine print. No surprises at arrival. This makes us look less aggressive than competitors — because we aren't. But it means you actually know what you're paying for.
2. Claims Need Sources
Teacher credentials, actual class sizes, how many Chinese students enrolled last session — we only state what we can verify. We don't invent numbers to make the pitch tighter. This sounds obvious, but in this industry, it's rare enough to stand out.
What This Means For You
Choosing a program abroad is one of the bigger educational decisions a family makes. And it shouldn't be a bet. It should be informed.
That's what I'm solving for. Not the flashiest marketing or the easiest selling. But the kind of reliability that lets you feel confident you made a good choice — before, during, and after your child's program.
I want families to pick Malaysia not because we convinced them brilliantly, but because they understood clearly. That's what DAMATRIP is built to deliver.
DAMATRIP: Malaysia education, made clear.
